百年臺灣歷史，新詩一直在時潮的浪頭上，在文學內部，它對話傳統舊體，帶動文藝思潮；對外，它挑戰封建思維，對應社會現實。從日治中期，經戰後初期、國府渡臺，以迄漫長曲折的政經變動過程，臺灣的新詩，融裁古今、匯通東西，蔚映數代，形成其獨特豐美的傳統。
國立中央大學中文系與臺灣詩學季刊社合作，策畫「臺灣新詩百年國際學術研討會」，安排了座談和論文發表。論文共19篇，分成2天報告，有四大主題：新詩百年詩史議題探索、新詩類別特徵與社會思潮、新詩社群及傳播研究和新詩的跨域流動，分別由美國、馬來西亞、日本、香港和台灣的學者發表論文。
本論文集收錄10篇論文，皆經二位匿名委員審查通過；另收2篇特稿，王潤華教授論文亦經匿名審查通過。
