Exhibition, Performance and Promotion Division
The predecessor of the Exhibition, Performance and Promotion Division was the Art Center, which was responsible for exhibitions and performances, collection maintenance, Public Arts, arts education and outreach, and the operation of related venues at National Central University (NCU). Through exhibitions, film festivals, performing arts programs, lectures, workshops, and artist-in-residence programs, the Division brings artistic resources into the campus and expands opportunities for faculty, students, and community members to participate in arts and cultural activities.
The Division continues to maintain and activate venues such as the Art Center, 107 CineSpace, Black Box Theater, art classrooms, and ceramics classroom. It promotes the practice and exchange of visual arts, film art, performing arts, and Public Arts on campus, deepening the humanities and arts atmosphere of NCU.
Art Center
The Art Center is located on the first floor of the Chung Cheng Library. The building was designed by architect Chen Chi-Kwan, an honorary alumnus of NCU. It currently includes exhibition spaces, art classrooms, a reading area, and a collection room. Each semester, the Art Center presents two to three exhibitions, mainly by invitation, covering two-dimensional, three-dimensional, mixed-media, and new media art. During the university anniversary period in May and June each year, it also presents major exhibitions featuring distinguished alumni, senior artists, or National Award for Arts recipients.
By introducing artists and art groups from Taiwan and abroad, the Art Center brings diverse and high-quality arts activities to the campus. During exhibitions, it also organizes related programs such as artist talks, lectures, workshops, and artist-in-residence projects, offering NCU faculty and students, nearby communities, and residents of the greater Taoyuan area opportunities to engage with art, participate in exchanges, cultivate aesthetic experience, and enhance artistic literacy.
107 CineSpace
107 CineSpace is located on the first floor of the College of Liberal Arts Building. As Taiwan’s first campus-based dedicated cinema, it has 95 seats and professional audiovisual screening equipment, with the goal of promoting film art and visual education. The space was planned and established in 2003 by the Film Culture Research Room of the Department of English. Since 2022, it has been operated and managed by the Center for Humanities and Arts (CHA).
During the semester, 107 CineSpace presents various themed film festivals and selected screenings. It also occasionally invites directors, film critics, or related professionals for post-screening discussions, guiding audiences to understand films from different perspectives and broadening their experience of visual literacy and artistic appreciation.
Black Box Theater
Black Box Theater is located on the first floor of the College of Liberal Arts Building. It is a professional small-scale campus theater space in the Taoyuan area. The theater was planned and established in January 2012 by the professional team of the Black Box Performing Arts Center. Since 2022, it has been operated and managed by CHA.
Black Box Theater is equipped with comprehensive lighting, sound, and video systems. In addition to continuously improving its professional facilities, it actively revitalizes the use of the space, creating a platform for learning and practicing performing arts. Each year, the theater organizes artist-in-residence programs, technical workshops, and various performing arts activities. It also occasionally invites small and medium-sized theater groups to perform, allowing faculty, students, and audiences to experience diverse forms of performance up close, broaden their aesthetic perspectives, and deepen the humanities and arts cultivation of the campus.
Public Arts
To integrate art into everyday campus life, NCU has installed several works of Public Arts across the campus, including Taichi Bronze Sculpture, The symphony of DNA, Ride on the cloud and fly into imagination, The Five Elements, WHY, Listening to the Pine Wind, Circle-90° II, Walking Amongst the Clouds, and Cycle-90° The Wings. These works are located in different areas of the campus, responding to the architecture, landscape, and daily routes of faculty and students, making art part of the spatial experience of campus life.
Ceramics Classroom
The ceramics classroom is equipped with pottery wheels, hand-building tools, and kilns. It provides a space for faculty and students to create functional ceramics and artworks, and also serves as an important venue for arts experience programs and exhibitions on campus. The NCU Ceramics Club recruits members every semester and holds regular instruction and creative activities in the ceramics classroom, guiding faculty and students through the complete ceramics process, from wedging clay and wheel throwing to glazing. The classroom also occasionally offers short-term courses and activities covering craftwork for daily life and hands-on experiences, promoting ceramic creation and aesthetic education.
