Purpose

National Central University Art Center originated from the Arts and Cultural Activities Working Group, established at the end of 1995. In 1996, under the supervision of the Office of Student Affairs and with the assistance of Professor Wu, Fang-Cheng from the Graduate Institute of Art Studies, the Art Center exhibition space was established in the Chung Cheng Library, the former main library. It began providing visual arts exhibition resources for NCU faculty, students, and visitors. The Art Center was later formally incorporated into the general education system and became a second-level teaching unit of the university.

Over the past three decades, the Art Center has continued to introduce established, mid-career, and emerging artists to the NCU campus, including National Award for Arts recipients and artists selected for the Taoyuan International Art Award. It has also gradually expanded into performing arts programs, including music and theater, film screenings, and educational promotion of campus public art, enriching cultural life on campus and deepening faculty and students’ engagement with the arts and humanities.

In spring 2022, the Art Center merged with the Center for Humanities Research and the Kunqu Opera Museum to form the Center for Humanities and Arts, becoming a first-level administrative unit of the university. CHA is responsible for deepening humanities education on campus, planning arts and cultural programs, and operating arts and cultural spaces, including the former Art Center exhibition space, 107 CineSpace, Black Box Theater, and Kunqu Opera Museum. It is dedicated to serving as a platform for interdisciplinary exchange between the humanities and science and engineering. In spring 2026, CHA took over work related to university history, formally incorporating the operation and development of the NCU History Museum as a phased mission.

In line with NCU’s 2026–2030 University Development Plan, CHA will continue to support the goal of “strengthening cohesion and fostering a shared sense of identity.” It will expand connections within and beyond the university, introduce diverse arts, cultural, and humanities resources, promote interdisciplinary exchange and high-quality programs, and cultivate a campus environment enriched with humanistic care and artistic sensibility, providing open and abundant arts and cultural resources for faculty, students, staff, and the wider public.

We believe that the humanities and arts are vital forces that bring people together and inspire the future.

We sincerely invite all sectors of society to join us in supporting the sustainable development of arts and cultural activities on the NCU campus, and to move forward Together with Art.
