The Taoyuan Canal is a vital water conservancy project in northern Taiwan with a history spanning over a century. Its construction not only improved irrigation conditions but also fostered the development of agriculture, industry, and technology, serving as a bridge connecting culture, ecology, and history.
This academic screening event is jointly organized by the Graduate Institute of History at National Central University and other units, under the guidance and co-organization of the NCU Alumni Service Center. The event, titled "A Century of Nourishment: The Taoyuan Canal", includes a documentary screening and academic lectures. Through this, attendees will trace the historical depth of the canal’s construction, understand how it links ponds to form a green ecological corridor, and appreciate its role in flood prevention and cultural heritage. The event will also explore the canal’s significance in Taoyuan City’s development over the past century.
In line with NCU’s unique approach to humanities education through “Taoyuan Studies,” the event aims to inspire a collective sense of patriotism, local identity, and environmental awareness among students and faculty, along with a cultivated understanding and care for historical and cultural matters.
